Students can take courses at any level regardless of what grade they are in.
BUSINESS INNOVATIONS 10S
Suggested introduction course to ALL other courses in the ACE program.
What is a business and how do they operate? Are you interested in one day starting your own business? Do you want to learn how businesses affect your everyday life?
Business Innovations in an introductory course which allows you to sample the various areas within the ACE program. The course offers you the opportunity to explore business related topics such as economics, entrepreneurship, marketing, technology, and finance. Throughout the course, you will apply the concepts and strategies learned to a variety of creative business projects/simulations.
PERSONAL FINANCE 20S
Personal financial skills are essential in everyday life. Do you want to effectively manage your personal finances so that you can reach your short-term and long-term goals?
Personal Finance focuses on developing fundamental financial literacy skills, including the value of money, basic economics, budgeting, saving, financial institution services and investing. This course is highly recommended for all high school students. Many students will get their first part‑time job while in school or are starting to dream about future purchases that require financial planning such as buying a car, travelling or pursuing post-secondary education.
CREATIVE PROMOTIONS (ADVERTISING) 20S
How does a business or brand grab your attention? What promotional and advertising strategies are used to communicate with consumers?
Creative Promotions will provide you with the opportunity to develop an understanding of promotional communication using a hands-on practical approach. You will study advertising tricks and techniques, deconstruct media messages, explore logos and branding, examine how the media targets teens, and much more. You will also create ads for television, radio, print, and the web.
VENTURE DEVELOPMENT 30S
Do you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur? Every business venture begins with an idea. A determined entrepreneur is willing to take the necessary risks to see their venture succeed.
Venture Development is for everyone who has an interest in starting their own business. It builds upon the concepts and ideas studied in Business Innovations 10S. Students will focus the majority of their time on planning, creating, implementing, evaluating, and growing a business venture. This course compliments the studies of any business student whether in the Commerce, Communication, Entrepreneurship, or Finance strands.
BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS 30S
Wish you could use a computer to complete your school work faster? Want to learn how to produce professional looking documents? Want to gain essential skills for working in today’s business/office environment?
Business Communications is designed for students interested in pursuing post‑secondary studies in the business field. It is also a desirable course option for future entrepreneurs or any individual who wants to develop effective workplace communication skills. This course will focus on developing effective written, verbal, interpersonal and visual communication skills. With an emphasis on technology infusion, students will learn how to use current technologies to create communications that are clear, concise and designed for business (e.g. social media).
ACCOUNTING ESSENTIALS 30S
Accounting is considered to be a fundamental element for business success. Without accounting knowledge, effective and informed business decisions could not be made!
Accounting Essentials will provide you with the opportunity to gain an understanding of basic accounting concepts and principles. With an emphasis on accounting for a service business, you will apply your knowledge and skills to complete the stages of the accounting cycle.
Accounting Essentials provides the fundamentals of accounting and is a good choice for students wishing to pursue finance studies in Accounting Systems 40S. Students interested in pursuing post-secondary studies in any business discipline will benefit considerably by completing this course. It is also a desirable course option for future entrepreneurs or any individual who will need to know basic business money management and financial bookkeeping.
ACCOUNTING SYSTEMS 40S
Recommended Pre-Requisite: Accounting Essentials 30S
Accounting Systems is an extension of the material studied in Accounting Essentials 30S with an introduction to financial analysis and corporate accounting. You will apply your knowledge and skills to complete the stages of the accounting cycle for a merchandising business.
Accounting Essentials and Accounting Systems, when completed at the high school level, gives you a significant advantage when participating in business and commerce programs at the post-secondary level. The skills acquired are not only useful when pursuing a career in business and/or accounting, but essential for everyday life.
BUSINESS MANAGEMENT 40S
Do you have effective leadership and management skills? Businesses rely on effective management and leadership to maintain and grow a venture.
Business Management focuses on developing skills in planning, leading, organizing, controlling and staffing. Students will study various management styles and participate in activities related to human resources, inventory, finance, and project management. The focus of this course is to develop effective management and leadership strategies in various settings. This course compliments the studies of any business student whether in the Commerce, Communication, Entrepreneurship, or Finance strands.
